Nature excursions
Inside the Reserve it is possible to follow some trails to visit the coast and valleys and to observe the flora and fauna. Very impressive is the path that starts from Cala Stretta, runs along a stretch of coast, and then overlooks the fascinating Cala Galera Valley, where the remnant aspects of the Maquis shrub-land and some exceptional centuries-old specimens of Juniper and Carob tree are preserved.
On the west coast of the reserve, the path that follows the forest tracks above the crests of the Profondo and Acqua Valleys, is full of sensational panoramic spots.
This path crosses the plateau of Contrada Sanguedolce, where works for the recovery of the maquis shrub-land, started by the ‘Forest Company of the Sicilian Region, are visible. Finally, one can admire the delightful view overlooking the Tabaccara Cave along the route that connects sections of old paths with some military tracks, opened during WWII.
